The kidney is a pair of organs about the size of our fist. Kidney is located either side of the spine in the lower abdomen. Adrenal gland is attached on top of each kidney. A mass of tissue covered the kidney and adrenal gland. Kidney remove the wastes and extra water from blood and make the urine. It is also a part of urinary tract. Urine collects in middle area of each kidney called renal pelvis and leaves the body through urethra. The kidney make RBC (Red Blood Cells) and also make make a substance that control the blood pressure.
Development of cancerous cells in kidney is called kidney cancer. Various types of cancer may develop in the kidney. The most common types of kidney cancer is renal cell carcinoma. It is generally occur in adults. Children are generally affected with a kind of kindney cancer known as Wilms’ tumor. It is different from adult cancer.
Approximately 51,000 people are treated with kidney cancer each year in US. The cases of kidney cancer are increasing every year. Computerized tomography (CT) are helpful to find the cancerous cells in kidney. Kidney cancer may spread from one kidney to another kidney or other parts of the body such as lungs, bones liver etc. When kidneycancer spread outside the kidney from its original place then newly affected organ cancer is also known as kidney cancer and treated as a kidney cancer. Spread of kidney cancer to other parts of the body is called metastasizes or distant disease.
